About Ibo

Ibo Bakker (Amsterdam, 1972) is an illustrator, painter, and writer of (children’s) books. In addition, Ibo is active as a musician, actor and composer.
He is part of the Gurdjieff Quartet.

Whichever hat he is wearing, Ibo is primarily a storyteller. A narrator with an eye for detailand magic, which is mirrored in his drawings, paintings, and music. With humor and a light playfulness he brings his stories into the limelight; whether it be on paper or on stage. Stillness and transcendency are important characteristics in Ibo’s oeuvre. He is a messenger from a poetic world that we sometimes seem to forget in the speed of everyday life.

In the spring of 2019 his third children’s book “Little Owl goes swimming” will be published. This time Little Owl will discover the underwater world. This series will be
translated in French and English, among others.

In 2019, Ibo and his quartet will record an album with pieces by Gurdjieff / de Hartmann. (Gurdjieff (1866-1949) was an Armenian mystic, writer, and composer who worked and lived in Fontainebleau and Paris for the last 25 years of his life.)
Ibo is also working on a book with 11 magical stories and paintings inspired, among other things, by ‘Les Années folles’ around 1920 in the French capital. The echoes of this cultural and spiritual period are still heard and seen almost 100 years later. In addition to influences from this era, contemporary stories will resonate in this book, focusing on the miraculous in everyday life.
